Welcome to my website
I am Associate Professor at Louisiana State University where I teach German Literature and Film, Comparative Literature, and Literary Theory. I received my PhD from Harvard University in 2008 with a dissertation on constructions of time in postmodern novels. I also serve as the Book Review Editor for literature, film, and culture at the German Studies Review.
In my research I explore the reasons why people devote themselves to writing and storytelling, and also why we read, watch, or listen to such stories.
My research addresses the intersections between literature, philosophy, science, and media. I am lead-editor of the Handbook Lectures on Poetics: History-Praxis-Poetic Theories (Walter deGruyter in 2022), a critical anthology about lectures in which writers and other artists describe their artistic approaches.
My current project is a monograph with the title The Arts and the Social: 100 Years of Arguments For Literature, Film, Music, and Art.
